On February 16, 2008, Rio Hondo ISD was once again
well-represented at the ATSSB All-State Band Concert held in San Antonio
during the Texas Music Educators Convention. Nine students from Rio
Hondo High School were selected to the All-State Band after a rigorous
multi-step audition process which began in December. Four
freshmen, three sophomore, one junior, and one senior made the band.
At the TMEA convention, the students had to audition for chair
placement in the band. The results are as follows:

Ramiro Ramirez, Jr.--10th chair trombone
Erica Mata--26th chair trumpet
Alexandria Vidal--10th chair flute(1st chair concert band)
Erasmo Ramirez, Jr.--18th chair trombone
Raul Valdez--5th chair snare drum(1st chair concert band)
Tirzah Claus--3rd chair flute
Felipe Salazar--1st chair bass trombone
Mario Garza--23rd chair trumpet
A.J. Vidal--10th chair tuba(1st chair concert band)
All State honors is the highest goal to which over 10,000 A, AA,
and AAA high school students strived but only 260 achieved. Only 146
schools from across the state were represented in this band, with most
schools having only 1 or 2 students make this prestigious organization.
Congratulations to all these students for their fine performances
and their recognition as the top musicians in the State of Texas.
